First NJ Location Of Restaurant Chain Opens In Hudson County Next Month
A Greenwich Village Indian restaurant will cross the river to open in Hudson County next month.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — The Kati Roll Company, an Indian restaurant that's been serving up Koltata street food for 24 years, will open its first New Jersey location next month, they said Tuesday.

Just like several other chains, they've chosen to open in Hudson County, specifically Jersey City.
Founded in Greenwich Village 24 years ago by Payal Saha, the chain "helped introduce New Yorkers to the authentic flavors of Kolkata Street food long before fast-casual dining became a national trend," said a representative on Tuesday.

They opened in Greenwich Village in 2002 and then expanded around New York City, as well as in Dallas and London.
They'll open on July 1, with other locations in New Jersey planned later this year.

"Perfected by Payal and Executive Chef Anil Bathwal over two decades, the menu is rooted in the street food of Kolkata and built on uncompromising attention to quality ingredients and fresh produce," the chain noted. "All fillings are marinated daily, and pre-packed foods or sauces are never used, reflecting the founders' belief that authenticity begins with the ingredients."
Cheese, Eggs, Chicken, and Lamb
Signature rolls include the Achari Paneer Roll, filled with Indian farmer’s cheese marinated in "Achari" pickling spices; Unda Chicken Tikka Roll, layered with freshly beaten egg, chicken breast marinated in yogurt and spices; and Shami Kabab Roll, minced lamb and lentil croquette with aromatic herbs and spices.
The menu also features rice and salad bowls, including the Steak Rice Bowl, with grilled Steak Tikka cubes over biryani rice; Chana Rice Bowl, with blackened, spiced chickpeas over biryani rice; and Paneer Salad Bowl, with grilled Achari Paneer cubes; all served with spicy mashed potatoes, fresh salad with cilantro-lime dressing, white raita sauce, green chutney, and caramelized red onions.
The menu also includes house-made Alphonso Mango Lassis prepared with organic yogurt and freshly made spicy potato chips.
Designed to reflect the character of the neighborhoods, each location features a custom mural dedicated to the local community and its surroundings.
“I started this because I missed the kati rolls I grew up eating in Kolkata. I thought if I missed them this much, other people must too,” said found Payal Saha. “New Jersey customers have been crossing the river to find us for years. It felt right to finally come to them.”
Anil Bathwal, the chef, said, “Making fresh Indian food with real ingredients and real recipes, while scaling a brand, is genuinely hard. It’s taken us years to build a system that doesn’t ask you to choose between quality and consistency across geographies. You taste that difference in every bite.”
The kati roll is a handheld roll with a chargrilled filling, wrapped in a fresh-baked roti or paratha, born on the streets of Kolkata.
"One roll is a perfect snack; two make a full meal," says the company. "All meats are halal, grass-fed, and antibiotic- and hormone-free ... Vegan options are also available on the menu."
The eatery is coming to 924 Bergen Ave. and will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
