Houlihan's In Hudson County Abruptly Closes (Here’s Why)

A popular Houlihan's bar and restaurant in Weehawken suddenly shut its doors, leaving employees and patrons in a daze.

WEEHAWKEN, NJ — A popular Houlihan's bar and restaurant in Hudson County abruptly shut its doors this week, leaving its employees out of work and many of its patrons wondering what happened.

On Tuesday, Weehawken Township officials announced the Houlihan’s at 1200 Harbor Boulevard has closed. The cause? An “ongoing lawsuit with Hartz Mountain,” a Secaucus-based real estate company, officials said.

Houlihan's – responding to a tweet on Oct. 8 – said the closure was the result of an “ongoing dispute with the landlord.”

The original poster’s response was less-than-overwhelmed: “I’m mad upset.”

According to the Houlihan's website, there are nearby locations in Bayonne and Secaucus.

“My own personal opinion would be, you could give the employees a little more time,” Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner told Jersey Digs. “Why weren’t people given a dignified period of time to look for another job?”

Many internet commenters railed against the closure, sharing good memories of the often-busy establishment.
