Rep. Sires Signs Resolution To Impeach President Trump
The congressman joined a growing number of New Jersey lawmakers seeking to impeach or remove the president.
NEW JERSEY — Rep. Albio Sires on Thursday said he had joined a growing number of New Jersey lawmakers by signing a resolution "bringing Articles of Impeachment against the President for his role in yesterday’s failed insurrection."
The congressman, who represents parts of Hudson and Essex counties, wrote on Facebook on Thursday, "He must be held accountable and removed from office."

After a pro-Trump mob stormed their way into the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday to halt the Electoral College certification of Joe Biden as the next president of the United States, five Americans died, and both Democratic and Republican lawmakers criticized Trump's statements and a rally he held before the incident.

On Wednesday night, Sires wrote, "I am sickened by today’s events. The world was watching as a sitting American president attempted to take down democracy by inciting chaos and violence, because he cannot accept that he lost an election. The world was watching the symbol of democracy, our country’s Capitol, as insurrectionists stormed the building."
As of Friday, 10 members of Congress representing New Jersey, including Sires, had called for President Trump's removal.

Democratic Sen. Cory Booker called on Trump's cabinet to exercise the 25th Amendment and remove Trump. Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman, D-Mercer, co-sponsored a resolution to impeach Trump, her office confirmed.
