The Hoboken Charter School FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics team, Roboken, had their league tournament in February and made it all the way to the final round in the elimination matches- finishing as the finalist alliance. They also won the Inspire Award which is the highest award given out. Either accomplishment would advance them to States which will occur in March in Hillsborough, NJ and we are excited to cheer them on. (A picture is attached.)

During Black History Month, Hoboken Charter School students engaged in the celebration and honoring of Black historical figures who have changed the course of history. They explored critical events and movements in Black history through literature, film and art created by Black writers and artists. In addition to K-12 coursework in music, art, language arts and social studies, upper school staff coordinated a Mission Day through which all grade 9-12 students attended mixed grade seminars about topics ranging from the Harlem Renaissance to the Tuskegee Experiment to the Legacy of Marsha P. Johnson. Students had opportunities to engage in artwork, poetry and R&B composition, trivia competitions and even a coffeehouse full of performances by our talented students and staff. (Photos from the coffeehouse are attached.)

Hoboken Charter School was one of a select group of school districts in NJ that applied for and was awarded the High Impact Tutoring Grant from the NJ Department of Education. HCS has received funding to partner with Huntington Learning Center to provide math tutoring to students in grades 1-5 two-three days a week. Each student is receiving a personalized program to meet their needs and support their learning acceleration.

The lower and middle school student governments led No One Eats Alone Day where our K-6 students had lunch in mixed groups and participated in icebreakers. This day serves the goal of further creating a culture of belonging for everyone where all are accepted, valued, and included, and all of our differences are celebrated.
