“As a result of constant press inquiries and reporters following my wife, she has asked me to disclose her medical condition.

Nadine is suffering from Grade 3 breast cancer, which will require her to have mastectomy surgery. We are of course, concerned about the seriousness and advanced stage of the disease.

She will require follow up surgery and possibly radiation treatment. We hope and pray for the best results.

We ask the press and the public to give her the time, space and privacy to deal with this challenging health condition as she undergoes surgery and recovery.”

Previous Reporting

On March 21, Menendez said in a 9-minute video that he believes he will be exonerated and will run for re-election this year, but as an independent.

Menendez and his wife, Nadine Arslanian, were indicted on Sept. 22, 2023 for allegedly accepting the bribes from at least three business contacts. They were implicated in a newer indictment in early March for obstruction of justice.

Arslanian will have her trial separately, possibly in summer, due to surgery.

Menendez, who has been free on bail, has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Several news outlets have reported that Menendez's defense will involve putting some of the blame on Arslanian.

If he continues his re-election bid as an Independent, the senator will face Democratic Rep. Andy Kim, as well as the winner of the June Republican primary, as well as other potential independents. See the candidate list here.
