Timeline For Changeover To Snow As Storm Moves Through NJ

Wet snow and a steep temperature drop are in the New Jersey forecast for Thursday and into the weekend.

After days of record-setting high temperatures, a cold front will bring wet snow, high winds, and a 50-degree temperature drop to parts of the state on Thursday afternoon and evening, forecasters say.

"A strong cold front will shift offshore early this morning, with strong cold air advection occurring in its wake," the National Weather Service said. "This will result in temperatures tumbling today with very early morning highs in the 60s and 70s which then fall ... into the med to upper 30s this afternoon."

They offered a word to the wise, "The temperatures by mid-afternoon will be mostly in the mid/upper 30s. Don't dress for the temperatures we had the past few days."

The cold temperatures follow a week with several days that set record-high temperatures, the NWS noted.

"Seven [weather] stations broke their daily record high temperatures, and six stations tied or broke their record warmest low temperatures," the NWS said.
