Staying FIT in Pregnancy

You’re pregnant! Congratulations!

Getting in the habit of exercising while you’re pregnant will not only make you stronger for childbirth, it will help prepare you for when you have that little bundle of joy in your life and everything changes! Here’s some advice from Mr. Ray, of FIT RxN, to keep you working out throughout your pregnancy and to keep it up after you’ve given birth…

PLAN AHEAD

Let’s face it, there might just be those days where you find yourself tired and happily sitting on the couch watching bad reality TV. If you’ve already made a plan, you’re forced to get dressed and get out of the house! Find a workout buddy and plan to meet in the park or sign up ahead of time for a class. Want an even better way to make sure you get out? Commit to a session with a Personal Trainer. There’s no way he/she will let you get off the hook and cancel a session!

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE GOOD DAYS

Well, you planned ahead and and your plan for the day was to relax but you woke up feeling AWESOME! You’re full of energy and raring to go. Get out there… it’s time to make a new plan! Lace up the sneakers and go out for a run or a walk, check the gym schedule and find a good class that’s starting ASAP, call your trainer and see if he/she can squeeze you in. Someone else’s cancellation might just be the opening you need.

KEEP YOUR SPIRITS AND YOUR ENERGY UP

Your hormones are going crazy, your mood is all over the place and dragging around all that extra weight could be, well, draggy… Come on endorphins, do your thing! If you complain or whine to Mr. Ray his answer is always the same, “Go do some cardio. Get those happy juices flowing!” And it works-- you’ll feel better, you’ll be happier and you’re out of the house!

But now what…

You did it- you stayed active throughout your pregnancy, you felt great, you had a pretty easy delivery and now you have this beautiful baby. Once the doctor gives you the ok to get back at it, you need to figure out how to make it happen! Let’s face it, there might just be those days where you just can’t imagine getting the baby and yourself ready to go out of the house? You haven’t even showered in days! And well, you know what they say about making plans with a newborn… this baby has his/her own ideas about when to sleep and how often to eat!

Well, they also say, “Just do it!”  You need those endorphins, you need that social time and you need to keep yourself healthy. How? The same ways that you got through your pregnancy… find a group of mommies that want to work out in the park, sign up for Mommy & Me classes that allow you to bring the baby and even make him/her part of the workout, keep that Trainer-- he/she will make sure you stay on track and probably even entertain the little one a little bit while you get your sweat on!

Take it from Tina, one of Mr. Ray’s fit moms. She’s trained with him for the past 7 years and through 2 pregnancies!

“The times I felt best during both pregnancies was during my workouts with Ray and right after. That’s when I was full of energy. Working out kept me strong throughout the pregnancy and my LONG deliveries! Even during the 18 hour delivery with my first, I felt strong and like I could make it through. The best part was the recovery after. It’s one thing to have to lose weight after, but I was still fit. I felt good about how looked and I didn’t feel like I was starting over, it was just a seamless continuation.”
