Flash Floods, Hail Possible On Memorial Day In Hoboken Area, Says NWS Hazardous Outlook

Hail, sudden downpours, thunder and flash flooding are possible today in Hudson County, "especially west of the Hudson River."

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A hazardous weather outlook issued Monday morning in Hudson County says heavy downpours are anticipated starting in late afternoon, and that hail, thunderstorms, and flash floods are possible, "especially west of the Hudson River."

The area could get nearly an inch of rain, with possible downpours on the way around 3 p.m. and then 9 p.m.

The NWS said: "A frontal system will bring a couple of rounds of heavy downpours and thunderstorms this afternoon into this evening. This will bring the potential for isolated severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and1" hail, and a localized flash flood threat. The flash flood and severe threat appears to be highest to the west of the Hudson River."

The entire state is under a hazardous weather outlook, and "A tornado cannot be ruled out," the NWS says.

In Hudson County, a flood watch had not been issued as of this writing, but rainfall of more than .8 inches an hour may cause sudden floods, the city of Hoboken has said.

Anticipated downpours may cause a dangerous condition. Do not try to drive through floodwaters.

The 12:24 a.m. high tide of 4.9 feet early Tuesday could also be a factor.
