Various Hoboken Roads To Be Closed For Water Main And Park Work
Various Hoboken blocks will be temporarily closed this week for work on the Northwest Park and on the city's aging water mains.

HOBOKEN, NJ — The city of Hoboken is continuing the first phase of its water main replacement project this week, especially important with the recent water main breaks around town. While replacing 15 blocks or 7,000 linear feet of Hoboken’s oldest water mains, several roads will be temporarily closed.
The city is also working on its future Northwest Resiliency Park, to open in fall 2021. That work also will cause a temporary road closure this week.
Here is a list of roads to be closed, and related work, from the city:

- Tuesday: Monroe Street between Third and Fourth Streets will be closed at times between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the installation of a new mater main.
- Tuesday: Garden Street at Fifth Street will be closed between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. for abandoning the old water main.
- Wednesday and Thursday: Jefferson Street at 11th Street will be closed at times between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for abandoning the old water main.
- Wednesday: Garden Street at Third Street will be closed at times between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. for abandoning the old water main.
- Wednesday through Friday: Garden Street between 12th and 14th Streets will be closed at times between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. for installation of a new mater main.
- Thursday and Friday: Bloomfield Street between Second and Fourth Streets will be closed at times between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. for installation of a new mater main.
The construction of the water mains utilizes low interest and interest free loans from the New Jersey Infrastructure Bank, and does not use funding from the 2020 municipal budget, the city said. In 2019, the city entered into a contract with Suez Water that now provides for $33 million in water main upgrades through 2034.

- Monday through Friday: Construction will occur to build the cistern which will hold water for reuse in irrigation, and excavate the area for the 1 million gallon detention tank.
- Thursday and Friday: Adams and Jefferson Streets between 11th and 12th Streets, and 12th Street between Jefferson and Adams Streets will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for water infrastructure work related to the new park.
