Weehawken Pool Memberships Sell Out In 2 Days, Frustrating Some Hudson County Residents

Weehawken season pool passes are also open to Hoboken residents, who lack a community pool. Online orders sold out quickly last week.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — While Hoboken has a tradition of promising its residents a pool each year, Weehawken delivered for its residents in 2022. But because the township used state "Green Acres" funds for their waterfront pool complex, they have to share it with anyone from New Jersey — including those next door in pool-hungry Hoboken.

Last week, when Weehawken opened up seasonal pool passes through their RecDesk system, residents of both towns managed to gobble them up in less than 48 hours.

By Thursday, residents of Weehawken, and some previous pass holders, were left complaining that they missed the window to get the passes, which were offered at a $135-per-person rate for Weehawken adults, and $260 for adult out-of-towers. The pool is free for children of pass-holders.

Around 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Weehawken announced on its webpage, "Sold out! Memberships for the 2026 season for the Weehawken Township Pool Complex are sold out for this year. Thank you for your interest in joining the Weehawken pool."

They had posted around 3:30 p.m. two days earlier that the memberships were open.

In response to the "sold out" announcement, some commenters said they hadn't received a message when registrations were open, others said the website wasn't working initially, and some just expressed shock.

"Sold out in like what, 24 hours? After the link get posted on a random day with no prior notice? What the hell," wrote one resident.

Anyone in New Jersey may still use the pool if they buy a day pass, but registrations tend to go quickly when they open up each day.

Official Weighs In

Hoboken 2nd Ward Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher said this week that even she had been shut out in the past.

"Memberships sell out quickly every year, and I often hear from neighbors later in the spring or early summer that they missed the window or that it simply wasn’t on their radar," she wrote.

"Creating a pool in Hoboken has long been one of my platform priorities, and it still is. Having that discussion does not have to be separate from conversations about taxes - the two are not mutually exclusive. What it requires is thoughtful strategic planning, something our city has not seen in a long time."

Patch asked of the Hoboken mayoral candidates last year if they could promise to have a pool by a certain deadline, and few answered. (Current Mayor Emily Jabbour declined to make a promise, but referred to two existing plans in the works.)

Alternatives, Wait List, And Day Passes

The website for the pool says that day passes will be available starting at the end of June. More information on the pool and passes are here.

Patch reached out to Town Administrator Gio Ahmed to see if more passes will be sold this year, and will update this story if a response is received.

The town posted on Monday that interested parties can join a wait list by emailing: recreation@tow-nj.net

Memberships in the Stevens Institute of Technology indoor pool in Hoboken are also available for a fee.

Meanwhile, local parents and advocates have suggested that every city should have a pool to teach water safety. Read more about that here: Hoboken Pool Updates
