Seventeen-year-old Hoboken High School senior Chelsea Andino practices her talents in a number of different fields. She has been playing the piano for 12 years and is a star midfielder and forward for her school's varsity soccer team.
She's actively involved in the math, yearbook, French, and Hispanic culture clubs, and she also volunteers with the HOPES Community Action Partnership.
Andino is also a good student, having earned her way into the National Honor Society. English is one of her favorite subjects because she likes writing and reading. “Some people hate writing papers, but I like it,” she said. She finds reading a relaxing escape.
She also likes studying history and the way culture has changed over time.
“I like to dig up research and studying the past,” she said.
Andino's taste for history also extends to her music choices. She listens to a lot of music made during the 1960's.
“Some people say I'm an old soul because I listen to the Beatles,” Andino said. Her favorite song by the lads from Liverpool is "Hey Jude."
Andino has plans for attending college after she graduates from Hoboken High, but she isn't sure where she wants to go yet.
“Definitely not too far away,” she said. “I want to go to a big school, where there's other people, and where there's an outdoors and a green campus.”
She plans to study both business and education, fields in which her parents work. Her parents own a business and her mother is a teacher in Hoboken. Andino said she is already learning how to run a successful business.
“You really have to be organized,” Andino said. “That's me.”
