Whiz Kid: Future Economist Cristian Rosa

Whiz Kids is a weekly feature in which Patch profiles an outstanding youngster or youth group. This week's Whiz Kid is Cristian Rosa, who is awesome because he's learning how to crunch the numbers for big business.

Age: 17

School: Hoboken High School, 11th Grade

Cristian Rosa is already climbing the corporate ladder. The 17 year-old Hoboken High School junior works as an intern for the John Wiley & Sons publishing company.

“I've been wanting to do it since my sophomore year,” Cristian says. “A teacher referred me, I handed in the application and got the job.”

Cristian works two days a week for Wiley's global rights division. His daily responsibilities involve scanning contracts and archiving them in a database. He calls working for Wiley a great experience and says it will help him for his career goals of studying economics and finance.

During his time in school Cristian participates in a lot of clubs. He is vice president of the math club and is also on the student council. He even mentors younger students through Hoboken High's Jumpstart program.

“I don't know how I do it,” Cristian says about his busy schedule. “I just learn how to prioritize.”

He's a good student, having earned his way into the National Honor Society. His favorite subjects are English and Math.

“I like dealing with a lot of numbers,” he says.

In his spare time Cristian likes hanging out with his friends and following sports. He particularly likes basketball, football, baseball and golf. His favorite basketball team is the New York Knicks.

He also spends a lot of free time reading economic books and learning about stocks. He's working really hard during his junior year to prepare himself to get accepted to college. He has high aspirations of getting into Princeton.
