Whiz Kid: Lawyer-to-the-Stars Irma Pinos

Whiz Kids is a weekly feature in which Patch profiles an outstanding youngster or youth group. This week's Whiz Kid is Irma Pinos, who is awesome because she's as busy as she can be.

Age: 16

School: Hoboken High School, 12th Grade

Sixteen year-old Irma Pinos knows how to handle a busy schedule. She's in several clubs at Hoboken High School, including the yearbook, math, chemistry and Hispanic culture clubs. She's also in the Hype Club where she mentors younger students.

“It's basically managing and multitasking,” she says. “You just have to balance it out.”

Irma, a senior, writes photo captions for the yearbook. She first got interested after looking through the yearbook as an underclassman.

“I wanted to get involved and help with that kind of stuff,” she says.

She is a star athlete on the tennis team, and also just joined Hoboken High's award-winning theater program. She just got a role in the upcoming production of the play Voices.

"That was pretty cool," she says about landing the role. "I was shy and never went out for those types of things."

Irma is a good student who is a member of the National Honor Society and is on track to graduate with an advanced International Baccalaureate diploma.

Her favorite subject is English. “I like reading and trying to understand what you've just read,” she says.

When she's relaxing Irma likes to hang out with friends and watch movies. She likes dramatic comedies the most.

Irma's hobby of watching movies feeds into her career goals. She's applying to study at Brown and NYU and she wants to be an entertainment lawyer.

She also plans on continuing her extracurricular activities at the college level.

“I love all my clubs,” she says.
