Woman With Stolen Scooter Grabbed Phone, Hit Man With Umbrella, Hoboken Police Say

Police charged a Jersey City woman after she took a scooter belonging to Hoboken ShopRite and then stole a phone, they said.

HOBOKEN, NJ — The Hoboken police say they charged a woman with robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon, and receiving stolen property after a series of incidents a week ago Monday.

They said that on the afternoon of Monday, Sept. 25, Alice Picket, 41, of Jersey City, stole a motorized scooter belonging to the Hoboken Shoprite at 900 Madison St.

Police say that she then went to Classic Cleaners several blocks away and asked to charge the scooter. While she was waiting in the front of the shop, she took a phone off the counter and left, police say.

Police say a man ran after Picket, and when he caught up to her, she hit him on the head with her umbrella.

"Police Officer Joseph DiMartino located the phone in Picket’s pocket," police said.

ShopRite employees confirmed the scooter was property of the store.

Picket was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, robbery, and receiving stolen property, police say. She was taken to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
