UPDATED: 3 Water Main Breaks In Hoboken Shut Down Streets
After three water main breaks in the same area shut streets in central Hoboken, the city said drivers should avoid the area Thursday.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Three water main breaks in the center of Hoboken were repaired by morning, but streets are still closed, the city of Hoboken said Thursday morning.

"Work has been complete to repair broken water mains at three locations in Hoboken. Veolia reports water service has been restored to all impacted customers. Road restoration continues in the area and roads remain closed in the vicinity of Grand and Adams Streets between Fifth and Sixth Streets. Residents are advised to avoid the area and find alternate routes during morning commutes."

An emergency tow order was issued last night by the Hoboken Office of Emergency Management and vehicles parked in the area of Sixth Street between Grand and Adams were towed to an uptown lot, the city said. Owners can get their cars back free by calling the Hoboken Police Department non-emergency number, 201-420-2100.

Crews for Veolia Water headed to the center of Hoboken on Wednesday night to address three water main breaks that soaked the streets.
The company said that cars would be towed from the area so that the breaks could be fixed.
The breaks occurred at the corner of Fifth and Grand streets, 610 Grand St., and 408 Sixth St., all in the same general area in the center of town.
The city's Office of Emergency Management said it would distribute bottled water in this message:
We have a water distribution site set up for residents impacted by the water main breaks tonight. Those who do not have water service during repairs can pick up drinkable water on 6th between Grand and Clinton Streets. @HobokenOEM

The city of Hoboken began replacing its 100-year-old water mains in 2019. It has still suffered from numerous water main breaks over the years, including a major break in February that shut schools for a day and left residents without water for several more. Here is the message Veolia water set out Wednesday evening:
Veolia is responding to three water main breaks in Hoboken at 408 Sixth St,. 610 Grand St., and the corner of Fifth and Grand Streets. Residents are advised to avoid the area. There are multiple road closures as work to make repairs is conducted.
An emergency tow order has been issued by the Hoboken Office of Emergency Management and vehicles parked in the area, including those on Sixth Street between Grand and Adams, and at 502 Adams St., are being towed to an uptown lot. Owners can get their cars back free of charge, by calling the Hoboken Police Department non-emergency number at 201-420-2100.
Some Veolia customers may experience no or low water pressure as repairs are made. Veolia will make notifications to properties whose water service must be shut during repairs.
In May of 2019, the City of Hoboken and SUEZ (now Veolia) entered into anew water service contract investing at least $33 million in water infrastructure upgrades through 2034. The amended agreement established anew public water utility on July 1, 2019.
