80% of Hazlet District Families Favor In-Person Classes: Survey

While a large majority of parents favor a return to in-person classes, a recent update from Gov. Murphy may allow for alternative plans.

HAZLET, NJ – In the most recent installment of video messages to Hazlet community members, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Scott Ridley announced an update to the district reopening survey sent out to district families. With over 2,000 district families participating in the survey, Ridley shared some results in a July 21 update. Watch the video message below:

While 80 percent of families demonstrated a desire for students to return to in-person instruction in the fall, 18 percent of responses indicated a preference for a fully virtual learning experience. Amid the governor’s recent update announcing that the state will provide a remote-learning option for schools, Ridley spoke confidently about the district’s flexibility to meet students’ needs. “Yesterday, Gov. Murphy announced that he would be sharing a plan for such a program in the very near future,” said Ridley. “Whether you see an in-person educational experience for your children or a fully online program, Hazlet will meet the call.”

“A clear definition of what teaching and learning will look like across K-12 in Hazlet will emerge by the conclusion of that gathering,” said Ridley.

Additionally, each school in the district will also be holding a weekly pandemic recovery committee meeting beginning next week, according to the superintendent. These meetings will address specific issues and concerns tailored to each individual school population.

To accompany each school’s reopening response, the district will be incorporating a Frequently Asked Questions section on the homepage of each school. This will address a variety of questions ranging from athletics to administrative issues to health and safety.
