911 Calls, Videos Released In Fatal NJ Pharmacy Police Shooting

Authorities released video footage of the fatal police shooting on Jan. 6, 2022 involving a Keansburg man with a large knife.

KEANSBURG, NJ - Video footage and audio from the fatal police shooting involving a man holding a hostage and wielding a large knife at a Keansburg pharmacy on Jan. 6, 2022 was released by the New Jersey Attorney General's office on Thursday (See video/audio below).

When officers arrived at Keansburg Pharmacy around 3:21 p.m., James Sutton, 55, of Keansburg, was holding a large knife and threatening to harm an employee of the pharmacy, according to authorities. Read more: Officer Stabbed, Suspect Killed In Keansburg Pharmacy Incident

One officer was stabbed by the Keansburg resident, prompting multiple officers to fire their weapons at Sutton. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Prior to the officers discharging their weapons, the male officer who was stabbed and Officer Putkowski fired tasers at Sutton.

The injured police officer was taken to Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel and from there moved to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, a trauma hospital. He is currently recovering, the Attorney General's office said in a statement.

The officers who discharged their weapons have been identified as Officer Jillian Putkowski, Detective Christopher Rogan, and Detective Richard Johnson.
