NJ Officer Stabbed, Suspect Killed In Pharmacy Hostage Incident

A police officer was stabbed and a suspect killed in an incident in Keansburg Thursday afternoon.

KEANSBURG, NJ — A police officer was wounded and a male suspect fatally shot in a hostage situation at a Keansburg pharmacy Thursday afternoon, according to the New Jersey Attorney General.

The identity of the suspect and the officer are not being released at this time. The medical condition of the officer also remains unknown. He was taken to Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel and from there moved to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, a trauma hospital.

At 3:21 p.m. Thursday, multiple 911 calls were received by the Keansburg Police Department reporting a robbery in progress at a pharmacy at 199 Main Street. Officers of the Keansburg Police Department responded.

One officer was stabbed by the suspect, said the AG. Multiple officers fired their service weapons, striking the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Attorney General's office has to do an investigation any time a death occurs during an encounter with a law enforcement officer.

The New Jersey PBA tweeted:
