“Black Lives Matter Educational Rally” Held in Holmdel
Saturday's "Black Lives Matter Educational Rally" furthers Conversation about Racial Inequality in Holmdel

On Saturday, August 15th, a “Black Lives Matter Educational Rally” was held in front of the Holmdel Municipal Court. Organized by Sarah Faysal and Eileen Huang, the rally had close to 60 attendees and featured speakers from the Holmdel community and our neighbors.
According to its flyer, the rally aimed to educate attendees on the history of the policing system, racism and oppression, and white supremacy. In terms of action the rally covered anti-racism and allyship. The speakers included Asbury Park’s Felicia Simmons, Marlboro’s Derek Trevor Jones, and Charity Daramola, an activist with Woodbridge Youth for Liberation and Equity.
Organizer Eileen Huang says that she hopes “people walked away with a better idea of Black Lives Matter’s demands and movement.” She also hopes this better connects community members interested in the rally’s topics, giving them a chance “to better organize and build coalitions together.”

Activists like Derek Trevor Jones emphasized that Black Lives Matter does not mean that Black lives matter more than other lives, but instead that they are equal to “all lives” or “blue lives”. To read more thorough coverage of the activist speeches, check out Daniel Wang’s article in TapInto.
