Writing the Sacred: a Psalm Writing Workshop

“Writing the Sacred: a Psalm Writing Workshop” with Rev. Ray McGinnis – Sunday, October 14th after church from noon to 2:30pm (bring at bag lunch and $10)

Plan to join this exciting workshop by Ray McGinnis that will inspire each of us to write our own psalms and sacred writings, similar to the glorious works in the bible.   This will not only be about writing  (mostly for non-writers), and also a faith-building exercise.  Here is what Ray says will result:

  • Increased appreciation of the psalms when they are read in a worship service.

  • Appreciation of the poetry in the Psalms alongside other splendid sample of other spiritual poets

  • New bursts of creativity to access to enhance self-expression through writing

  • Strengthened relationship with God and Christ.

  • Inspiration from an educational method I use to engage participants in psalm-writing to aid in each individual's pathway for spiritual growth

  • Participants who’ve never written before, or not for a very long time, discover a capacity for self-expression through writing.

  • Appreciation of some fresh writing exercises for seasoned writers

  • Empowering openness and providing basic tools applicable for helping people write and lead prayers in worship

"Ray McGinnis has a finely tuned ear for the deep meaning of the Psalms. And, as a veteran workshop leader, he has a knack for drawing bursts of imagination out of people who might not know they had it in them. In this insightful and helpful book, Writing the Sacred: A Psalm-Inspired Path to Appreciating and Writing Sacred Poetry, McGinnis brings together his talents to show readers how to rediscover the biblical psalms and how to strengthen their spiritual lives by creating their own psalms in response to our challenging, pluralistic world."  - Douglas Todd, Spirituality and Ethics writer for The Vancouver Sun

“ It was amazing to listen to these words authored by individuals who one would never think could be so articulate….  Your work is certainly a calling and a ministry.  It brings the deepest expression of authentic faith out of anyone who opens to the opportunity for grace encountered in the psalms.  Excellent!" - Pastor Tom Bentley, Trinity Congregational Church, Gloucester, Massachusetts
