Free "Bagsters" Available at Holmdel Town Hall

At Town Hall, residents can pick up a new Waste Management product called "Bagster: Dumpster in a Bag."

The carting company has given the Recycling Coordinator 100 free bags to distribute which sell for around $30 at Home Depot and Lowe's.

When a user is done filling the Bagster with trash, Waste Management will pick it up for an additional fee. In Holmdel, that would be $170.13, when taxes and fees are included. There is a discount for a pickup of a second bag.

In reviews on those home improvement sites, customers said the durable bags cost much less than steel Dumpsters, were more convenient than trips to the dump, and held up well when packed with gravel, tiles, chunked-up swingsets, storage sheds, and demolition waste.

Another advantage, one reviewer said, is that you can use it for months and schedule a pickup on your schedule. Several reviewers said in their case, that happened the next morning.

But there were some complaints from reviewers who said they were shocked to learn there would be a pickup fee. Some experienced delays in pickup, which some said ranged as long as five days. One poster on the Home Depot site, from Rhode Island, said he paid a contractor one fifth of the WM Collection fee to haul it away himself.  

Holmdel Township Dept. of Public Works operates its own large item dropoff, free to residents, who are no limited to the amount of bulk waste they can bring to the site. The Large Item is open on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays in September and October, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The service is normally not available after October. The township has anticipated higher than normal volume at the site due to the storm. 

The Bagster offered by WM holds up to 3,300 lbs. Its dimensions are is 2-1/2 ft. H x 4 ft. W x 8 ft. L.

The Clerk’s Office at Town Hall is open from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. The Town’s only involvement in this program is the distribution of the free Bagsters.
