Hazlet to Hold Special Meeting Monday on JCPL Proposal
The township may take formal action at that meeting, Monday night, June 20.

Hazlet, NJ - The Hazlet Township Committee announced Tuesday afternoon it will be holding a special meeting on Monday, June 20 at 7:00 p.m. to discuss the JCP&L tranmission line proposal.
The township may take formal action at that meeting, in the form of a resolution stating the five-person Township Committee is against the proposal.
"We have a resolution ready to vote on stating we are against these power lines and towers," Committeewoman Barbara Ronchetti told Patch Tuesday.

Holmdel, Hazlet and Middletown all sued JCP&L in the late 1980s when the power lines were first pitched, and it appears the Bayshore region is gearing up to yet again fight the extremely unpopular proposal: Middletown Mayor Gerry Scharfenberger previously told Patch he's exploring what legal options the township can take to fight JCP&L.
Hazlet Mayor Scott Aagre said he's invited all the Bayshore mayors and Assemblywoman Amy Handlin Monday night "to listen to the concerns of the citizens so they may do the same as a unified front against the installation of these monopoles through our towns and in our backyards and school areas," he said.
