Hazlet Police Chief Retires After 39 Years
A lifelong member of the Hazlet Police Department, Police Chief James Broderick is now retiring.

HAZLET, NJ-- After 39 years on the force, Hazlet Police Chief James Broderick has reported for duty for the last time.
Chief Broderick began his police career as a Hazlet Auxiliary police officer, before working security at Six Flags Great Adventure and at the State Capitol Police. He joined the Hazlet Township Police Force full time in September of 1977.
A promotion to Sergeant came in July of 1985, to Lieutenant in May of 1988, Captain in July of 1995, and Deputy Chief in July of 1997. He was promoted into his current position of Chief of Police on July 1, 2004, making this past July his fiftieth anniversary as Chief.

Chief Broderick graduated from the FBI National Academy, and has received numerous commendations for his work.
His love for Hazlet came shone through in a 2004 interview with Greater Monmouth News.

"I’ve been here my whole life and I have never thought about leaving," Broderick told the website. "Hazlet is a great place to live and a great place to raise a family. I’m glad to have this opportunity to help the people of Hazlet in this capacity."
A family man, Broderick is married and, alongside his wife, raised four successful sons.
