Hazlet Schools To Release Reopening Plans Next Week

In a video announcement, superintendent Dr. Scott Ridley said that district reopening plans will be released on July 30.

HAZLET, NJ – The Hazlet community may receive the district's school reopening plans earlier than expected.

While the Hazlet Township Public Schools Board of Education gave the district reopening committee until Aug. 7 to come up with health and safety strategies for September, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Scott Ridley announced in a July 24 video update that plans are slated to be released next week. The district's reopening guidelines will be officially unveiled on Thursday, July 30 following a reopening committee meeting, according to Ridley: “That will give six weeks to review and respond and allow us the opportunity to build out on those suggestions.”

The superintendent stresses that the plan won’t cover every single detail and it “won’t be perfect.” Each school’s pandemic response committee will begin meeting next week to provide the district with individual feedback and suggestions.

“It will be a living document designed to evolve and adjust as the medical world continues to pursue an antidote, and the world of education – our world – continues to tend to the needs of our students and staff,” said the superintendent.

Next week, a second survey will be sent out to district families, according to the video update. Ridley cited the number of upticks in nationwide cases and Gov. Murphy’s recent announcement offering virtual learning options for schools as reasons to survey district families for a second time. “Like all of you, we are hoping for a cure sooner rather than later," concluded Ridley. "Though, until that time, we will remain diligent and responsible regarding how best to serve the emotional and educational needs of our community. Stay Hazlet strong.”
