Hazlet's Middle Road, Sycamore Drive Schools Report COVID Cases
One individual "associated" with each school building has tested positive for COVID-19, according to the district website.
HAZLET, NJ - Two individuals in the Hazlet Public Schools community have tested positive for COVID-19, according to school officials.
In a message posted on Friday to the school district website, officials announced that an individual “associated” with the Sycamore Drive Early Childhood Learning Center recently tested positive for COVID-19.
An update to the district website on Sunday, Nov. 22 announced that another individual, this time associated with Middle Road School, also tested positive.

It was not immediately clear whether the two reported cases are related.
Relevant contact tracing has been completed and all close contacts have been notified and quarantined if necessary.

“Cleaning and disinfecting of all exposed areas and equipment is being carried out,” the notice reads.
The school district recommends families to continue following recommended safeguards, such as:
- Staying home when you are sick
- Washing hands often with soap for at least 20 seconds
- Covering coughs and sneezes and properly disposing of tissues
- Limiting close contact with people who are sick and not sharing food, drinks and utensils
- Practicing social distancing (staying at least 6 feet apart)
- Wearing a face covering while in school
- Continuing to monitor your health for symptoms

If students exhibit any signs and symptoms of COVID-19, parents are asked to contact their child's physician and the school nurse. Families should also notify the school nurse if a child tests positive for COVID-19.
The Hazlet school district also recently released guidance following Thanksgiving-related holiday travel. Any community member that travels to a restricted location during the November break must quarantine for 14 days upon return.
"Failure to do so will result in the student being denied in-person instruction and having to transition to virtual learning for the duration of the quarantine," the district added in a Nov. 10 memo.
Nearby Holmdel Public Schools have closed its doors to in-person classes for the remainder of the month, with live instruction to resume on Dec. 3.
