Finish strong. It’s the theme that Holmdel boys varsity soccer coach John Nacarlo selected for the team this year. Well, the boys have finished the regular season strong, rebounding from their disappointing 3-6 start to end 8-6-1 (7-4-1). The Hornets are 5-0-1 in their last 6 games giving up only 1 goal in all of those matches.
Playing at home today, senior midfielder Gino D’Agostino scored the game winner in the first overtime. Junior Rohan Gandhi sent a cross into the box that was deflected and D’Agostino followed though to give his team the big win. Overtime, is a “golden goal” with the game ending on the first score. Junior goalkeeper Tyler Marchiano picked up his 6th shutout of the season. Another strong performance by Holmdel’s defense: Eric D’Aleo, Brian Healy, Nick Zolofra and Tom Rogan, limiting the Lancers to just 5 shots on goal.
