Holmdel High Girls Tennis Win State Group 2 Championships 3 Years In A Row

The girls begin the Tournament of Champions next week.

HOLMDEL, NJ-- The Holmdel High School Girls Tennis Team won their third straight State Group 2 Championships, after a win on Thursday.

The girls beat Haddonfield 5-0 to secure their third win in as many years. The team, who are 20-1 for the season, won the Shore Conference championship earlier this month.

Seeded second in the Tournament of Champions, the Hornets will play the winner of the upcoming Newark Academy/New Providence match Tuesday in Edison.

“This collection of student-athletes is a true embodiment of ‘Holmdel Excellence’,” said Principal William Loughran, “we wish them the very best when they compete in the Tournament of Champions next week.”

The team was led to victory by Brianna Gibbs playing 1st Singles for the team, Alexandra Wojciak at 2nd Singles, Rita Vought at 3rd Singles, Emily Kong and Vicky Vought at 1st Doubles and Natalie Cipriano and Jaimee Ratkoski at 2nd Doubles.

Gibbs will compete in the state singles tournament beginning tomorrow, and Emily Kong and Vicky Vought will play in the state doubles tournament.

The Hornets are coached by Head Coach Chuck Chelednik and Assistant Coach Don Russell.
