A student athlete at Holmdel High School tested positive for the coronavirus, according to a districtwide alert.

HOLMDEL, NJ – A student on the Holmdel High School boys' basketball team tested positive for the coronavirus, according to a districtwide release. The student was exposed to the virus at an off-campus location on July 19, according to the alert.
Parents were notified of the exposure in a release sent to district families on July 23. Penned by interim Superintendent Dr. Leroy Seitz, the release also detailed that the student will be required to self-quarantine for 14 from the positive test and is instructed to follow his doctor's orders.
As the student participated in a team workout on July 20, attendees of the basketball practice are also required to self-quarantine for 2 weeks and follow the instructions of their physicians. Parents of the affected students have been notified, and a return-to-play note will be required from their doctors.

"The Holmdel Township School District along with the NJSIAA COVID-19 Task Force has worked extremely hard to provide an environment that is safe and well-monitored for our student athletes," wrote Seitz in the release. "We will continue to ensure all the outlined procedures are followed and continue to provide a safe environment for your children to participate in athletics. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if there is anything we can assist with at this time."
Per Seitz's letter, the district is expected to give an update on the situation on July 24.
