Holmdel police hope to alleviate some traffic problems near the high school entrance by lengthening the time that a traffic light there remains green, according to a school board member.

Mike Sockol said extending the green light at Crawfords Corner Road should give drivers more time to make the left turn into the high school parking lot. Police will change that light’s timing next month, he said.

Board members also said they wanted to ask drivers to use alternate routes that would not require that left turn, and encourage parents to have their children take buses to school. Those measures would also help alleviate traffic problems that occur in that area between 7 and 7:30 a.m. on school days, they said.
