Holmdel Shortens Spring Break Due To Snow Days
Holmdel public school students are only getting a two-day spring break thanks to the "excessive" amount of snow days this winter.

HOLMDEL, NJ — The "excessive" amount of snow days Holmdel public schools had this winter means the district had to shorten spring break, Holmdel superintendent of schools Dr. Robert McGarry announced.
Holmdel schools were supposed to be closed for a full week, plus Good Friday, starting this Friday, March 30, through Friday, April 6. However, now students only have off on Good Friday, Monday and Tuesday, and must be in school Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of next week, April 4-6.
Dr. McGarry said the abrupt change means the district is bracing for high amounts of absenteeism next week.

"We are expecting higher levels of absenteeism than usual ... I am asking that if you are able, please make every effort to have your child attend school on these dates," he said in a Sunday morning Facebook post to parents. "At the same time, and to address the concerns of those who cannot change family travel plans, there will not be any assessments that will impact student grades conducted in classes on these dates."
In 2014 and 2015, Holmdel spring break had to be shortened to make up for snow days, too.
