Holmdel Student Named National Merit Scholarschip Semifinalist

Fourteen others were recognized as Commended Students.

HOLMDEL, NJ-- A Holmdel student has been named a semifinalist for this year's National Merit Scholarship.

Mehr Sawant, a senior, was named based on her PSAT scores. She has already taken four Advanced Placement courses, and has another five on her schedule for this year.

"It is always gratifying to have so many of our students recognized for their academic achievements," said Superintendent Dr. Robert McGarry. "It’s a testament to the excellence in teaching and learning for which our district is known."

An additional fourteen Holmdel student were recognized as Commended Students: Joe Barbaro, Ethan Ching, Jenny Chu, Rachel Fryefield, Ben Guaragno, Aishwarya Kalyanaraman, Russell Kamback, Luke Kim, Cedric Noel, Kiran Setlur, Shika Vinodanandan, Charles Xu, Christopher Xu, and Steven Yuan

16,000 students are named as semifinalists, and from that pool, 15,000 will be named finalists. National Merit Scholarship winners are selected on basis of skills, accomplishments, and potential for college success.
