This was Bair’s 6th goal of the season. With this win, Holmdel, has now matched its 7-0 start from last season. Senior goalkeeper Helen Burleigh picked up her 4th shutout of the season. The girls look to keep their win streak alive with a win over St. John Vianney on Monday, September 29th at Roggy Field in Holmdel at 5:30 p.m.
On Saturday, the boys lost to Monmouth Regional 1-0. Holmdel had 18 shots to Monmouth Regional’s 5 and dominated the play but were just unable to score a goal despite several solid opportunities. Credit the Monmouth Regional goalkeeper Matt Vincenti who had 10 saves with a very good game including a blocked Holmdel penalty kick in the first two minutes of the game. Monmouth Regional’s Eric Caban was credited with the Monmouth Regional goal in the second half which on replay appears to be an own goal off the head of a Holmdel player.

The boys varsity season is off to a disappointing start in part due to injuries to several players. Their record now stands at 3-4 (3-2). They started the season ranked 19th in the state in the Star Ledger pre-season poll, and 4th in the Asbury Park Press. While pre-season polls do not mean much, there is great deal of talent on this team and we hope to see achieve more success. They are hoping as players get healthy that they suffer no more injuries and get their momentum going to finish the season strong. The Hornets now play three divisional games in a row this week, starting with an away game on Monday at St. John Vianney. That game is set for 3:45 at SJV on Line Road in Holmdel.
The weather forecast for tomorrow is a warm 81 degrees. Perfect for heading out to watch some soccer games. I hope to see you at both games helping me to cheer the student athletes on.
