HOLMDEL, NJ — As he prepared to step down as mayor on Dec. 31 — after nearly ten years in public office and public service — outgoing Holmdel Mayor Eric Hinds appeared in this farewell video to residents.

In the video, made this past Monday Dec. 30, Hinds speaks directly to Holmdel residents, where he thanks them for allowing to serve the town, and then summarizes the lists of what he's accomplished in his nine years as a Holmdel Township Committeeman, deputy mayor and mayor.

"I think the legacy starts and probably ends with Bell Works," said Hinds in the video. "A one-time vacant building. We've been able to revitalize this and make it one of New Jersey's greatest successes in the last 45 years. It will generate over six million for the town of Holmdel for generations to come. Your municipal taxes will not go up for a very long time."

Hinds is a Republican.

In a very surprising loss this past November, Hinds failed in his attempt to be re-elected. He was hurt by a censure vote taken against him by fellow Township Committee members in October, and was beaten at the polls by two Independents and newcomers to Holmdel politics. His Republican running mate, Chiung-yin Liu, filed a lawsuit contesting the results of the 2019 Holmdel election, and the outcome of that lawsuit has not yet been determined. Hinds himself also sued his fellow Committee members over their censure vote.

The two Independent winners, Cathy Weber and Prakasha Santhana, will be sworn into the Holmdel Township Committee Thursday night, Jan. 2.
