New Jersey Gas Prices Expected To Rise Amid Ukraine Invasion

NEW JERSEY — Gas prices in the United States have risen to over $100 a barrel on Thursday after Russia launched an invasion of Ukraine, and experts predict that higher fuel bills are on the way.

The increased demand for gasoline accompanied by the attacks on Ukraine is contributing to the rise of gas prices in New Jersey, according to the American Automobile Association. Gas prices nationwide averaged $3.57 per gallon on Friday, up more than 20 cents from a month ago and 90 cents from a year ago.

Russia is a major producer and exporter of crude oil and natural gas. According to an NPR report, investors are concerned that the conflict will disrupt some exports on the ground, while sanctions will hinder others.The U.S. has not yet sanctioned Russia's gas exports, but has acknowledged that other sanctions against Russia will affect global prices.

Gasoline in New Jersey is up 21 cents per gallon from a month ago and 85 cents from a year ago, to $3.61 per gallon, on average.
