JSCS Celebrating the Year of the Dog

2018 Chinese New Year

This year is the Year of the Dog in Lunar Calendar. Ranked as the eleventh animal in the Chinese zodiac, Dog is the symbol of loyalty and honesty.

Jersey Shore Chinese School (JSCS) will ring in the Chinese New Year with a celebration on Feb 3, 2018, beginning at 1:30 pm at the Holmdel High School Auditorium. There will be a reception and raffle drawings. The celebration is free and open to the public.

The event will feature National Anthem sung by a joint collaboration of JSCS students and Fidelity Chinese School students. Under careful arrangement and months of planning from JSCS teachers and staff, the students showcased their talents through Lion Dance, Dragon Dance and Traditional Folk Dances. Xiang He Ballad, Synthesis Dances & Yi Dance Jump Box were performed by a group of national dancers under the guidance of Mrs. Zhou Min.

Choo Choo Train & Native Taiwanese Dance were performed by a group of young students ages four to five, led by Mrs. Nancy Lo. Students from Conversation Class showcased their Chinese speaking ability by reciting Four Ancient Poems. Students also performed the Dragon Fists, recited Chinese riddles, poems, and performed Chinese Opera. Audience also enjoyed performance by students in Pami Kol Martial Art Class led by Mrs. Julia Lambert, who gave demonstrations on self defense techniques. Last but not least exciting performance, yo-yo students led by Mr. Chia-Chang Li set off a wave of applause from the audience.

More than 300 people attended the JSCS Chinese New Year Celebration. Guests include Director of Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in New York, Mr. Jack Huang; Overseas Chinese Affairs Councilman, Mr. Nelson Tai; Overseas Chinese Affairs Promoting Councilman, Ms. Jinny Liang; NJ Assemblywoman, Ms. Serena DiMaso; Monmouth County Freeholder Deputy Director, Ms. Lillian Burry; Monmouth County Freeholder Director, Mr. Thomas Arnone; Monmouth County Freeholder, Mr. John Curley; Holmdel Mayor, Mr. Thomas Critelli; Holmdel Township Freeholder, Mr. Patrick Impreveduto; Holmdel Duty Mayor, Dr. Rocco Pascucci; Holmdel School District Superintendent, Dr. Robert McGary; Jersey Shore Chinese School Principal, Mrs. Jenny Liou and many other former JSCS Principals.

This annual event was an amazing cultural experience. Principal Jenny Liou said that JSCS has been introducing Chinese Culture to the public for many years and has become a part of the Holmdel community. She is thankful for the unwavering support from the teachers, parents, students and the whole community. May the Year of the Dog brings you happiness, wealth, longevity and good fortune!
