Major Improvements To Roads In Hazlet

Hazlet's Road Restoration Project is underway in three neighborhoods this week.

HAZLET, N.J.—Road work is underway in three Hazlet neighborhoods, part of the township's Road Restoration Program:

  • Lucas Brothers Contractors will start work on Hemlock and surrounding streets, off Union Avenue.
  • By Cove Road School, JF Kiely Contractors is currently installing a new NJ Natural Gas main on Monterey Drive.
  • S. Brothers General Contractors is behind Airport Plaza, in the neighborhoods of Wagon Road; and Coach, Surrey and Carriage Drives, installing storm water drainage system improvements.

All of these areas will get new curbing and certain driveway aprons replaced as needed, as well as ADA compliant sidewalk ramps at intersections. The entire roadway surface will be milled and repaved, the township reports on its website.

"Residents can expect to see a lot of work being done, and they will be able to see their tax dollars at work," said Mayor Michael Sachs.

Hazlet launched the Roadway Restoration Program in 2018 with a list of 110 municipal roads on the "to-do" list.

Repairs began in 2019 and are being completed in phases, in coordination with NJNG utility work when possible. The work is partially funded by a state Department of Transportation Municipal Aid Grant Program and financing from a Monmouth County Community Development Block Grant.
