Man Arrested for Break-Ins in Hazlet, Police Say
He broke into 2 homes on Bedle Road, police said, and was seen in residents' backyards.

Hazlet, NJ - A local Hazlet man has been charged with breaking into one home, and trying to break into a second, both on Bedle Road in late May, township police told Patch Friday.
The break-ins happened on or around May 31, but Ronald Laverty, 47, was just arrested on July 5 because it took some time for fingerprints taken from one of the home's windows to be processed, Det. Lt. Ted Wittke of the Hazlet police said.
On May 31, Laverty, of Robin Road in Hazlet, broke into a Bedle Road home by removing window screens and then climbing in the window in the rear of the home. In that instance, he was able to get inside the home and he stole $50 in U.S. coins from the residence, police said.

On that same day, he tried to break into another home on Bedle Road, but the residents were inside the home and called police. He was also seen around that same time in some residents' backyards on Bedle Road, Lt. Wittke said, and several residents called police.
Lt. Wittke said police were able to arrest him after checking at the Shore Point Inn. Laverty was staying in a room there and police found items inside that matched items stolen from homes, Wittke said.
