Man Drove Car Into Holmdel Pool, Police Say (Photos)

Breaking: This was the scene on Seven Oaks Drive in Holmdel at 8:30 a.m. today, Friday, Nov. 16.

HOLMDEL, NJ — Could it be? An accident occurred in New Jersey Friday morning that we actually cannot blame on the pre-Thanksgiving snowstorm that paralyzed our state?

Yes, this was the scene on Seven Oaks Drive in Holmdel at 8:30 a.m. today, Friday, Nov. 16. A neighbor who lives next door to this pool was driving his Mercedes SUV out of his driveway when he accidentally hit accelerate instead of the brakes, Holmdel police said.

That caused the car to drive through a black fence, over a retaining wall and actually fall up to six feet down into his neighbor's pool, Holmdel police told Patch. Police did not give an age of the man driving, only describing him as "an older gentleman."

The pool cover is what stopped the Mercedes from becoming completely submerged, police said.

The man was not injured, but he did have to be pulled out by Holmdel police and Holmdel first aid from the car. He refused medical treatment at the scene. A crane is also required to pull the car out of the pool Friday morning. Snow was apparently not a factor, police said, as it was nearly all melted from the man's driveway when this mishap occurred, although there were wet leaves on the ground.
