HAZLET, NJ - Holmdel and Hazlet residents now have an extra opportunity to get tested in a neighboring municipality.

Middletown Township, located just minutes away, has opened its COVID-19 testing program to residents of Holmdel, Hazlet and beyond in an attempt to get “as many people tested as possible,” according to Middletown Business Administrator Tony Mercantante. The testing site is located at the Middletown train station main parking lot and is open Sundays, Mondays and Fridays.

“Our testing site has always been open to people from other municipalities," Mercantante told Patch in an email.

“We are happy to have people come from wherever, the key goal here is to get as many people tested as possible. Our most recent figures show that we have conducted nearly 4000 tests, and we are consistently seeing 5 percent positives out of that. Most of these positives were in asymptomatic people and that is exactly the group it is most important [to] be made aware [of] for obvious reasons,” Mercantante continued.

No appointment is necessary and there are no out-of-pocket costs. Pre-registration is preferred to expedite the process (click here to pre-register). Nobody will be turned away for lack of insurance.

Many Monmouth County residents are also eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. Currently, vaccines are widely available to those who are in "Phase 1A" and "Phase 1B", which includes those serving in health care settings who have the potential for direct or indirect exposure to patients or infectious materials, as well as residents and staff of long-term congregate settings. Police, firefighters and EMS personnel, seniors 65 and older and those between the ages of 16-65 with certain health conditions are eligible (see here for the full list). Once vaccine availability expands, vaccination will advance to "Phase 1C," and then "Phase 2," according to the state Department of Health. Read more: Gov.
