Monmouth Medical Center CEO Bill Arnold Honored by Monmouth Council, Boy Scouts of America

Monmouth Medical Center President and Chief Executive Officer Bill Arnold was recently recognized by the Monmouth Council, Boy Scouts of America as its Community Honoree at the Southern Monmouth Good Scout Reception. Arnold received the 2016 Southern Monmouth Good Scout Award at the event, held on October 13 at Spring Lake Manor in Spring Lake.

“Monmouth Medical Center is proud to partner with the Boy Scouts and I sincerely thank them for choosing Monmouth Medical Center and me for this special award,” Arnold said. “I commend the Monmouth Council, Boy Scouts of America, for helping to build good citizens and strengthen our communities, which is not an easy task in this day and age. As a hospital, we share similar goals to be the best we can be for ourselves and our community members.”

“Scouts know how to develop an idea to positively affect change, determine all the necessary steps, prepare for contingencies and put together an action plan to achieve their goal. This is a model that my team and I strive to follow as we work to achieve our goals and provide outstanding care to our community,” he continued.

The Good Scout Award is presented annually to those who exemplify the ideals of the Boy Scouts of America in their daily lives as outlined by the Boy Scout Oath and Law. Recipients are chosen for outstanding contributions to Scouting and/or service and leadership to their community. In addition to Arnold, Catharine S. Oliver, president of Hollybrook, LLC, was recognized at the event. Proceeds from the Southern Monmouth Good Scout Reception help to support the Scouting program, which serves nearly 7,000 youths throughout Monmouth County.

As two early institutions of the region, Monmouth Medical Center, the first hospital at the Jersey Shore, and Monmouth Council, Boy Scouts of America, the oldest council in New Jersey, share a long history with connections and benefactors dating back to the early part of the 20th century. The Housman family of Elberon donated the land and dining hall for former Boy Scout camp Camp Burton as well as funds for the Steinham-Housman Building at the hospital, while Mr. and Mrs. E. Murray Todd, for whom the hospital’s E. Murray Todd Building is named, also donated Todd Lodge at Forestburg Scout Reservation, the Boy Scout Camp in New York owned by Monmouth Council.

Additionally, early Boy Scout champion Sigmund Eisner, owner of the Sigmund Eisner Company, was the exclusive manufacturer of uniforms for Boy Scouts of America for decades. His son Monroe not only continued the family’s philanthropic support for the Boy Scouts, he was actively involved with Monmouth Medical Center, serving on the Board of Governors for many years. The Winone J. Eisner Pavilion at Monmouth Medical Center was named for Monroe’s wife.
