New D.A.R.E. Officer at Local Elementary Schools

Union Beach, NJ - There's a new D.A.R.E. officer at Union Beach elementary schools: Patrolman Robert Harriott, or Officer Bob as the kids call him, is teaching fifth graders how to resist drugs and prevent bullying.

Harriott recently took over the program from Sgt. Tim Kelly, who had been teaching D.A.R.E. in Union Beach schools for nearly the past 30 years. Officer Bob just started teaching his first four 5th-grade classes two months ago. Here is the new D.A.R.E. curriculum Officer Bob teaches kids:

5th grade DARE Curriculum

Week 1- Intro to Dare

Week 2- Drug info and responsible decision making

Week 3- Risks and consequences

Week 4 - Peer pressure

Week 5- Dealing with stressful situations

Week 6- Communication basics

Week 7- Nonverbal communication and listening

Week 8- Bullying

Week 9- Helping others

Week 10- Getting help from others and review

All students receive a formal D.A.R.E. graduation after completing the course.
