New Four-Way Stop Intersection At Beers, Clark Streets In Hazlet
The traffic change comes after a study revealed that 30 accidents have occurred at the intersection in the last 5 years, 21 with injuries.
HAZLET, NJ - A new four-way stop is slated to be added to an intersection in Hazlet that has been deemed dangerous for years, authorities said.
The four-way stop is expected to be installed in the next few weeks at the intersection of Beers and Clark Streets after a study revealed 30 accidents in the immediate area occurred in the last five years.
“Over the past few years we have responded to numerous car accidents at this location, many of which resulted in injury or were severe enough to require vehicles [to] be towed from the scene,” Hazlet police wrote in a statement. “This caused us to investigate further and work with Keyport PD to compile crash data.”

According to the statement, Safety Officer Patrick Wood recently conducted an in-depth traffic study which revealed that, over a five-year period, 30 accidents occurred at the intersection. The accident data additionally showed that 21 of the 30 accidents resulted in injuries and 22 of the 30 accidents resulted in vehicles being towed from the scene.
“Once all the data was examined it was agreed upon by both agencies there was a need for additional traffic control measures at this intersection,” Hazlet police said. “We are confident that the new four-way stop will reduce accidents at that location and make the roadway safer for all.”

The Beers-Clark Streets intersection is not the first Bayshore crossing to be flagged as dangerous. Last year, the Holmdel Township Committee agreed to add a four-way stop at the crossroads of Telegraph Hill Road - Holland Road and South Holland Road - Takolusa Drive after a Holmdel resident nearly lost his life due to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection. A since-defunct GoFundMe page for the local detailed that the accident left him with "multiple brain injuries." Read more: New Traffic Pattern Observed For Four-Way Stop In Holmdel
The Holmdel Township Police Department has also expressed interest in implementing a roundabout at the Telegraph Hill Road - Holland Road and South Holland Road - Takolusa Drive intersection.
