Police Save Teen's Life Using Narcan Sunday Evening
Police had to use Narcan on Friday afternoon, too, in Keansburg, after another suspected heroin/opiate overdose.
Keansburg, NJ - Police in Keansburg said they saved an 18-year-old woman's life on Sunday night using Narcan after she overdosed on suspected heroin.
Police were called to a Laurel Avenue home at 7:30 p.m. Sunday for a possible overdose. Ptl. Anthony Valle arrived on scene and found the 18-year-old woman unresponsive, with blue lips and breathing shallowly.
He administered Narcan into the woman’s nostrils, and then waited. After several minutes, she began to blink her eyes and move her arms, eventually sitting up. Keansburg EMS and paramedics arrived and took her to Bayshore Community Hospital, where she’s expected to make a full recovery.

Sunday night's incident marked the 14th time Keansburg police have had to use Narcan so far in 2016.
Just two days earlier, on Friday afternoon, at 3:18 p.m., Keansburg police were dispatched to a home on Center Avenue for a possible overdose of a 31-year-old man. The man was unconscious and unresponsive. The responding officer administered Narcan; saving his life. He was then transported to Bayshore Community Hospital for further treatment.

Every officer in Keansburg is equipped with Narcan nasal spray, which blocks the effects of an opioid, buying the overdose victim time until they can get to a hospital.
