Raritan Graduate Earns Gold

Athlete enjoys success at Special Olympics USA Games 2018 Seattle

Alexa Zajonc, a 26 yr old Raritan High School graduate and Hazlet Rockets athlete, was a member of Team NJ at the Special Olympics USA Games in Seattle the week of July 1 to 6. Team New Jersey consisted of 84 athletes and coaches from around the state and Alexa was one of our 6 athletes who competed in Athletics/Track and Field. Alexa qualified for the team by winning 1st place in the 800m run at the 2017 New Jersey Special Olympics Summer Games held at TCNJ in June. Once chosen, she trained hard throughout the year which lead to her success at Nationals in Seattle. In Alexa’s first day on the track, in front of all of her family who followed her to Seattle, she took Gold with a personal best in her favorite event, the 800 meter run! As the week went on she added 2 more Silver medals in the 400 meter and the mini javelin.

Alexa is a leader and a role model on and off the track. Her coaches are so proud of the way she represented Hazlet and New Jersey on this National stage! This Fall she plans to finish her education at Kean University as well as continue to train with the Hazlet Rockets!
