Serious Construction Accident In Holmdel Leaves 83-Year-Old Man Hospitalized

The Cranbury resident was trapped between a machine and hot asphalt, police said.

HOLMDEL, NJ-- A serious construction accident at the Bell Works site in Holmdel left a man hospitalized, police said.

An asphalt paver working on a driveway struck a lip where the driveway met the road, lifting the machine into the air. The 83-year-old operator was thrown of, and was trapped between the machine and the freshly laid asphalt.

A co-worker stopped the machine and removed it from the man before police arrived.

The victim, who is from Cranbury, was transported by Holmdel First Aid and Monroe Paramedics to the Jersey Shore Medical Center with serious injuries and burns. He was later transported to the Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia.

The accident remains under investigation by the Traffic Safety Unit. Anyone with any further information is asked to call Sgt. Imperato at 732-946-4400, ext. 1731.
