Sue Kiley Chosen as Hazlet's New Mayor

Issues she plans to tackle in 2017 are "continuing to fight the monster power lines and promoting economic growth," Kiley told Patch.

HAZLET, NJ - Sue Kiley has been selected as Hazlet Township's new mayor for 2017. The Hazlet Township Committee will officially choose its mayor this Sunday, January 1 at its Township Reorganization meeting, but word has already gotten out that they will nominate Kiley for the role.

New Jersey Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno will in Hazlet at noon on Sunday to officially swear in Kiley. Kiley will be only the second female mayor to lead Hazlet; before her was Mary Jane Wiley in 1985. Issues she plans to tackle in 2017 are "continuing to fight the monster power lines and promoting economic growth," Kiley told Patch.

Hazlet's current mayor, Scott Aagre, will serve as Deputy Mayor in 2017. The five-person Hazlet Township Committee has a Republican majority: Aagre and Kiley, along with Mike Glackin. Committee members James DiNardo and Barbara Ronchetti are Democrats. The swearing-in will take place at the Hazlet Municipal Building at 1776 Union Ave.
