Club soda, long considered a universal stain remover, usually just spreads out the stain.
Using club soda, especially on oily stains, can actually set the stain. Rubbing club soda on a tie can also dull the shiny sheen of the fabric. You might even spread the stain by using the club soda trick.
This home remedy may appear to help, but most of the time, it simply ruins a very expensive piece of your clothing investment.
What you should do:
Blot the fabric with a dry, white napkin and have the garment dry-cleaned as soon as possible. Be sure to point out the stain to your dry cleaner.
