An Uber/Lyft driver tried to talk to a 14-year-old Hazlet girl twice while she was walking down the street, police said. He was arrested.

HAZLET, NJ — A driver with either Uber or Lyft has been arrested for stalking a 14-year-old girl in Hazlet, police announced Wednesday afternoon. Hazlet police were notified of two separate incidents in which an adult man was accused of trying to talk to a 14-year-old Hazlet girl while she was walking down the street.

With help from a witness who recorded a license plate of the suspicious vehicle, detectives were able to quickly locate, interview, arrest and charge a 39-year-old Jersey City man with stalking, Hazlet police said. His name was not released.

The man has no apparent ties to Hazlet, but he has however been working in the area as an Uber and Lyft driver, police said.
