Woodbridge Man Leads Hazlet Police In Chase Through Several Towns

The man was driving a stolen van, and crashed twice, before finally being caught in Sayreville, police said.

HAZLET, NJ— A stolen van lead Hazlet Police on a car chase through multiple towns, ending when the car crashed and the subject failed to flee on foot.

At 11:40 a.m., a driver told Hazlet police that they'd been hit by a white plumbing contractors van, which then fled the scene. Police later learned that the driver was 50-year-old Glenn Forberger of the Avenel section of Woodbridge.

Middletown police began the pursuit along Highway 36 westbound. The car was confirmed stolen shortly afterwards, and a Hazlet police officer continued following Forberger.

Forberger lead police through several towns, before finally crashing near 10th Street in Sayreville. He attempted to flee on foot, at which point officers ordered him to the ground at gunpoint. Contrary to social media reports, there was no exchange of gunfire.

Once handcuffed, Forberger began to resist arrest. He was taken to the hospital for injuries related to the crash.

Forberger was charged with Receiving Stolen Property, Eluding, Resisting Arrest as well as several motor vehicle offenses. Bail is still pending.
