You Have 'Til June 1 To Pay Holmdel Property Taxes
On Tuesday Holmdel Mayor Greg Buontempo and the Township Committee voted unanimously to extend the grace period for homeowners.
HOLMDEL, NJ — On Tuesday Holmdel Mayor Greg Buontempo and the Holmdel Township Committee voted unanimously to extend the grace period for residents to pay taxes, due to the impact of the novel coronavirus.
The extension allows property owners to avoid interest or penalties on overdue payments through June 1. On Wednesday, Gov. Murphy similarly extended the grace period for taxes statewide.
Residents are reminded that the Governor's action did not give towns the ability to change the tax due date; it just extends the grace period. So do not pay your taxes after June 1 or you will be hit with late fees.

The Township Administration also needs to emphasize that according to state statute, failure to remit property tax payments by June 1 will result in interest and penalties dated back to the May 1 deadline.
Residents who are able to make tax payments on time are urged to do so. Proper cash flow is imperative to keeping public safety and other vital government operations online, said Mayor Greg Buontempo.

“Throughout this pandemic, we have been actively engaged with our community trying to assist our residents in any way possible. As soon as the Governor signed Executive Order 130 allowing us to do so, we were working to develop a plan to provide this extended grace period to our residents," said Mayor Buontempo. "The Township recognizes that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused many families to experience significant financial hardship. We are here to help."
Holmdel has dedicated space on the Township's website for resources related to the pandemic and urges residents who need assistance to contact municipal offices.
Additionally, the Mayor continues its coordinated personal protective equipment drive for first responders and hospital employees. To date, Holmdel Township has collected thousands of masks, over a thousand pairs of gloves, hundreds of face shields, over a hundred Tyvek suits and gallons of hand sanitizers and cleaning supplies.
